The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for the J. H. McHugh Municipal Swimming Pool, the John R. Bonner Memorial Park, the Alturas Railroad Museum, the Maston Ramsey roping arena, the 4H show barns and the Alturas Youth Park. Funding for improvements to the Youth Park and all maintenance and utilities are provided by the service clubs in the community through Service Clubs Inc.
The City provides many recreation opportunities for its citizens. These include a swimming pool, tennis courts, basket ball courts, 6 little leagues ball fields, 3 soccer fields, a roping arena, a 4H show barn and arena and a park. The City also works closely with local organizations providing live theater and docudramas.
